Families come in all shapes and sizes. Every family is unique in both its strengths and challenges. Family therapy is based on the premise that each family member has a significant impact on the family as a whole and a broad understanding of the whole family is needed to help an individual family member. In family therapy, the roles and interactions between family members are explored in an effort to manage and effectively treat issues that may arise in one or more members of the family.
Family therapy can help family members gain an understanding of how their family functions and learn ways to manage strong emotions and resolve conflicts that may arise. Family therapy also aims to build the strength of both individual family members as well as the family as a whole.
Family therapy is usually brief and solution-focused. I will work with you to identify specific goals and help facilitate desired changes during our work together. Family sessions are 60 minutes in duration and typically take place weekly.
